Carl E. Harris
Carl has been a member of the Research and Development group within Virginia Tech's Communications Network Services since 1995. His work centers around development of ATM and IP-based technologies for campus and wide-area networks and network management solutions development. He is the chief technology officer and design engineer for Net.Work.Virginia and has played a major role in the design and deployment process for the initial ATM based network as well as NWGng which is a packet based next generation network. He has also been heavily involved in switched networking technology throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia and surrounding region. His views on state-of-the-art networking technology are frequently quoted in national publications. Carl's research interests include IP multicast routing technology and applications, TCP performance simulation and measurement, and quality-of-service provisioning mechanisms for next-generation IP networks. Carl is also an accomplished programmer, Oracle database administrator and applications developer, UNIX systems administrator, and Headmaster of the Blacksburg School for Wayward Vaxen. Carl received Bachelor of Science degrees in Computer Science and Mathematics from Virginia Tech in 1995. He is a member of the Upsilon Pi Epsilon society of computer scientists, and the Pi Mu Epsilon society for mathematics and statistics. He is also a member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM).
