This “Policy Matters” paper examines the potential shortfalls in the field of nursing over the next 15 years. Because of the high costs and a lack of credentialed faculty, colleges will face significant challenges in training enough medical students. Policymakers and higher education leaders at all levels must support programs that build capacity and produce nursing graduates. The paper recognizes that "[c]ollaborations between two and four year colleges, high schools and the health care industry are proving effective in expanding nursing education progams."
